Learn how to make classic pizza dough from scratch with this easy recipe! Perfectly chewy, airy, and crisp, it’s the ideal base for any homemade pizza. Simple ingredients, step-by-step instructions, and pro tips included!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
  3. Make a well in the center, pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil, and stir until the dough starts to come together.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Add small amounts of flour if the dough is too sticky.
  6. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning it to coat with oil.
  7. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm spot for 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  8. Punch down the dough and divide it into 2-4 portions, depending on the desired pizza size.
  9. Shape into balls, cover, and let rest for 20-30 minutes.
  10. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to your preferred thickness.
  11. Transfer to a baking sheet or pizza stone, top with your favorite ingredients, and bake in a preheated oven at 500°F for 8-12 minutes or until golden and crisp.
