Ladolemono is the simplest sauce in the Greek kitchen: whisked olive oil, lemon, and oregano, spooned over grilled fish, chicken, and vegetables in every taverna. It takes minutes and instantly brightens whatever it touches.
Gather everything
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1 clove garlic, finely grated (optional)
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional, helps it emulsify)
Cook step by step
Instructions
- Combine the base
In a bowl or jar, combine the lemon juice, garlic, oregano, salt, pepper, and mustard if using. - Whisk in the oil
Slowly stream in the olive oil while whisking constantly, or seal the jar and shake vigorously, until emulsified. - Taste and adjust
Add more lemon juice for brightness or more oil for richness as needed. - Serve right away
Spoon generously over grilled fish, chicken, or vegetables. The sauce separates on standing, so whisk or shake again just before serving.
